Vertigo, l’Oratorio Hourrite  resurrects the oldest known traces of musical writing, “the Hurrian songs“, a series of thirty fragments of clay tablets inscribed in cuneiform, taken from the archaeological excavations of Ugarit (Mesopotamia-Syria) and never fully interpreted since they were buried underground (except for the hymn to Nikkal HO6), between 3400 and 3800 years ago.

Se Reappropriating all the steps of deciphering and interpreting these ancient cuneiform writings, Thomas Turine invites us on a journey between these 30 Hurrian poems and their strange musical notations.

Crossing successively the thirty or so tablets, we plunge into a curious, vertiginous and anachronistic vocal territory from which springs lost language, songs and historical melodies.

Questioning the links between vertigo and language and unspeakable times, Thomas Turine also transposes this cuneiform into a singular musical language.
Vertigo invites six musicians to dig these clay grooves and to penetrate the interstices of this language to create a dizzying sound territory.

Vertigo, l’Oratorio hourrite ressuscite les plus anciennes traces d’écriture musicale connues, « les chants hourrites », une série de trente fragments de tablettes d’argile inscrites en cunéiforme, sorties des fouilles archéologiques d’Ougarit (Mésopotamie-Syrie) et jamais intégralement interprétées depuis leur enfouissement sous la terre (hormis l’hymne à Nikkal h06), il y a de cela, entre 3400 et 3800 ans.

Se réappropriant toutes les étapes de déchiffrage et d’interprétation de ces antiques écritures cunéiformes, Thomas Turine nous convie en un voyage entre ces 30 poèmes hourrites et leurs étranges notations musicales. 

Traversant successivement la trentaine de tablettes, nous plongeons en un curieux territoire vocal vertigineux et anachronique d’où jaillissent langue perdue, chants et mélodies historiques.

Questionnant les liens du vertige au langage et aux temps innommables, Thomas Turine transpose également ce cunéiforme en un langage musical singulier.
Vertigo convie six musiciens à creuser ces sillons d’argile et à s’immiscer dans les interstices de ce langage pour en faire surgir un territoire sonore vertigineux.
